MapleBlume comes every three months in a beautiful gift box with magnetic lid. In the August 2019 box, there are four full-size and one deluxe size premium items. A teal card inside contains details on each product. This month’s box is themed Rejuvenate & Glow and the feature product is the Kigelia Corrective Moisturiser from Luxe Botanics. I’m also super excited about the RMS beauty palette and Malaya Citrus Bloom body oil. Keep reading for details on each product in this month’s Mapleblume box!

Luxe Botanics Kigelia Correcting Moisturiser – 60ml/2oz, $112CAD

A $112 facial moisturizer! This is so out of my range normally. I’m pleased to try Luxe Botanic’s most reparative product line. The moisturizer is packed with hydrating antioxidant-rich ingredients and high-quality ingredients like niacinamide that are usually found only in high-end skincare. Cucumber and blue passion flower extract are also on the list. This gel treatment is for twice daily use (night and day) and can be used on combination, oily, irritated, sensitive or even post-treatment skin. The opaque squeeze tube is sleek, clean and easy to transport. Something to enjoy without worry of dropping/breaking/spilling/contaminating this expensive item.

The gel is lightweight of course and is cool and refreshing. No unpleasant tightening, greasy ointment feeling, and zero residue occurred. I didn’t need much product to cover my face and neck, and it was much more moisturizing than I thought possible for a gel. It truly feels like potent and luxury skincare.

The star ingredient is Kigelia Africana extract, a plant ingredient that is described as both purifying and regenerative. There is also a high amount of glycerin which I know is hydrating without weight. A slew of other fruits, organic extracts, and essential oils give it a complex botanical scent. I recommend a patch test, especially since there is a small amount of peppermint, but my sensitive skin is thriving so far with several days of use. In the day, it needs a couple minutes to absorb or my sunscreen pilled.

This is a welcome addition to my routine unless I become a saint and gift it to a person very close to me that had a skin biopsy. A moisturizer for post treatment skin is special and it feels great to share something this nice.

Pure Ananda Strawberry Kiwi Lip Scrub – $8 CAD 0.5oz

This cute little pot of lip exfoliator is a mix of cane sugar and high-quality oils and butters like cocoa, argan and shea. The strawberry kiwi flavoring tastes sweet and fruity. What I really loved was the super smooth and moisturized lips that followed. The included RMS lip tints go on even better after a gentle scrub.

Composed of all organic ingredients, aside from the natural food-grade flavoring, it would be a bargain to re-purchase this at its low $8 retail value. My search on Sephora showed $20 for similar non-organic versions. I also like to see MapleBlume partner with another Canadian green beauty business.

RMS Signature Set in Mod – 4 x 1.1g/0.35oz, 1 x 1.5g/.05oz, $59CAD

In my experience, MapleBlume sends amazing make-up selections and this is no exception. There are five RMS beauty products in this compact palette:

– Simply cocoa lip and skin balm (clear)

– Smile Lip2Cheek (coral)

– Spell Lip2Cheek lip/cheek tint (nude dusty rose)

– Living Luminizer (pearly white highlight)

– Master Mixer (rose gold).

The luminizer and master mixer are very fun to use. You can use them on face, body, and with your other makeup products for a nuanced ‘lit from within’ touch. They go on sheer and subtle and build up without becoming tacky and shiny. I applied to cheekbones and corner of eyes for a natural and pretty ‘no-makeup’ look that drew compliments from boyfriend. If you want a strong look, you might need to use a lot of product or go for a different tint. For me, the luminizer was exactly what I’ve been looking for. I didn’t have anything like it in my existing makeup collection. No more contouring fails! Note the palette is fully recyclable so there is no mirror included.

The multi-tasking lip2cheek shades are natural and flattering. I knew I’d like the coral shade and happily the nude color also works well. It has enough brightness and pink to be summery and avoid washing me out. Also, I’m terrible for re-applying lipstick but also get dry lips easily. I put on Spell, forgot all about it, enjoyed dinner and tea, and was shocked to see it both dewy and intact at the end of the evening. In fact, everything in the palette feels like a little creamy without breaking me out. I love that there is a balm too. No wonder RMS is so popular!

Malaya Rosemary Lemongrass Beauty Bar – 105g/3.75oz, $18.30

The August MapleBlume box sees another product from Malaya, which is fantastic because I already fell in love with this brand when I received it earlier this year in another subscription. The founder of Malaya originally worked in cosmetics and went on to create natural skincare formulations that would help her own sensitive skin. Everything I’ve tried has been a pleasure to use and gives good results.

The Malaya beauty bar is made of comfrey root, lemongrass, rosemary, squalene and coconut oil for a combination that is moisturizing, cleansing, and soothing (anti-inflammatory). It smells amazing and lathers beautifully. It has a ‘soapy’ smell of lemongrass and herbs. I didn’t notice the rosemary in particular, just a nice earthy smell to tone down the lemongrass. I cut my bar in half as it’s a generous size and I’d like it to last. The texture is gorgeous – firm and a little buttery. It’s not hard or flaky or waxy at all. I like it enough to repurchase.

Malaya Body Oil in Citrus & Bloom– 60ml/28oz, $59

I am a huge fan of body oil, Malaya products, and jojoba oil. I’m almost guaranteed to love this. Plus, there are so many beneficial ingredients. The blend can help improve sun damage, skin elasticity, scars and stretch marks while soothing, softening and moisturizing skin.

The Malaya Citrus & Bloom oil is a light tangerine color that smells like oranges, roses, chamomile, jasmine and more. It applies clear and without leaving a sheen. The glass spray bottle shows off the product but requires storage away from direct sunlight.

This body oil will be a mainstay in my self-care and felt wonderfully comforting to use. Also, an excellent choice for hot summer days in my opinion. It’s a quick-absorbing dry oil blend that doesn’t need to be massaged in (which can be way too warming this time of year). A happy and energizing fragrance of essential oils goes in the air that doesn’t hang around too long. Just a quick swipe and it sinks in. Great for post-shower and anytime!

Verdict:

The value of the August MapleBlume box is worth $256.30 which is double the $120 box cost! The brands and products included all proved to be amazing choices that I can integrate into my routines. I’ll be using them up and antsy for the next box in November! In my experience, MapleBlume box is the best collection of luxury clean makeup and skincare to have each season.

Is this box still available?
