January’s GlossyBox theme is the “Sleep and Refresh Edition”, and is meant to help us find the best version of ourselves at the start of 2020.
Now, let’s reveal the products in this month’s box!
GlossyBox is kicking off the year with a bonus product for a total of six products for just $21! Keep on reading for more info on each product.
BYBI Beauty Strawberry Booster, 15 mL – $17 retail value
BYBI Beauty’s Strawberry Booster is a smooth oil made from strawberry seed. This oil is packed with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as well as ellagic acid. The product is made from cold-pressed seeds that would otherwise be thrown away after juice is extracted from strawberries. This oil went on smoothly and felt like a wonderful barrier after moisturizing. It went on well under my makeup and did not cause my foundation to separate. However, after a few hours of wear, my makeup did not look quite as good as when I first applied it, so I would recommend using this oil at night.
Kandi Cosmetics Glow Up Primer and Setting Spray, 120 mL – $19.50 retail value
The largest product in the box is also the flashiest! This spray by Kandi Cosmetics can be used as a shimmery base prior to makeup application or to set your makeup once it’s done. The positives for this product include the amount of spray contained in the bottle, meaning that it will last a while, and the misting spray that is fine and even to not disrupt finished makeup. However, the glitter in this product is a bit too much for me. I did not use this under my makeup as I did not want to cover my brushes in glitter. Though I was looking forward to this setting spray, I feel it is a bit impractical for the average person.
Tree Hut Sugarlips Lip Scrub, 0.34 oz – $6 retail value
Lip scrubs haven’t always been my favorite product, but the smell of this one intrigued me. Tree Hut’s lip scrub is made with shea butter and peppermint oil and intends to polish your lips and then nourish and soothe them once the sugar melts. The scrub smells like butterscotch candy or caramel. The residue after using the scrub is ultra smooth. This product is available at Ulta, making it super convenient to repurchase!
Mudmasky Sleep Repair Renewal Nourishing Mask, 20 mL – $20.50 retail value
I was surprised to see this product by MUDMASKY was a sleep mask instead of a traditional wash off mask. Sleep masks have increased in popularity over the last two years, so I felt it was an excellent choice to include in this month’s box. This mask is cruelty free, vegan, and fragrance-free. It is meant to repair, protect, and nourish the skin and add vitality to the skin. The mask comes in a blue gel that goes on clear. It has a pleasant tingle and initially makes the skin appear super glowy. It dries down, making it more comfortable to sleep in than other sleep masks I’ve tried. I woke up feeling refreshed and clean even before washing my face in the morning!
Avant Skincare Hydra-Bright Collagen Eye Restoring Pads – $14 retail value
This pair of under eye masks is meant to hydrate, de-puff, and decrease the appearance of fine lines and dark circles. This is a one time use treat that made my night a bit more exciting. The hydrogel pads grip nicely to the under eyes and after ten minutes, the glycerin, hyaluronic acid, allantoin, and collagen get to work on plumping your skin. I felt that these gel eye masks were as effective as other masks I’ve used in the past in that my fine lines were reduced but my dark circles were just as apparent.
PURELEI Black Velvet Scrunchie – $5 retail value
This scrunchie was the last item I dug out of my box, and it was such a pleasant surprise! The scrunchie is made out of a nice velvet material. It’s a little bit small, so it may not work for those with incredibly thick hair. I like the color choice for this scrunchie as it can match with any outfit. This definitely added to the value of the box despite it being the cheapest product!
Overall, this month’s GlossyBox was a decent value. For $21, you get $82 worth of product which I find to be average among other subscription boxes. The products are mostly appropriately priced with the exception of the Mudmasky Sleep Mask and the Kandi Cosmetics setting spray. I did not enjoy the setting spray, and though I liked the sleep mask, it is difficult to justify its price. I could see myself buying the lip scrub on my own to give as a gift to someone in my family. This month’s theme of Sleep and Refresh fits very nicely with the items we received in the box! It is quite cohesive to me. Even the scrunchie is something that I incorporate into my nighttime routine as I sleep with my hair up in a bun! I would recommend trying out GlossyBox based on January 2020’s box.
