About Simple Loose Leaf:
Simple Loose Leaf is a monthly tea subscription box that includes four 10 gram hand-packed loose teas in resealable pouches plus 4 reusable organic linen tea filters for $9 per month. Each pouch contains enough tea for about 5 cups of tea so one box of four pouches yields about 20 cups of tea (which breaks down to about 60 cents per cup!). Teas are sourced from around the globe and include a variety of green, black, and herbal teas. Simple Loose Leaf also offers a decaf tea subscription box for the same price. Shipping is $2.99 per month in the US and $9.49 per month for Canada.

There’s no theme to this tea box, but the brochure contains expanded information on the included teas. The resealable tea bags themselves include brewing directions for each specific tea. And for those without a loose leaf tea infuser, the box comes with four reusable linen tea filter pouches so you can try out each of the teas.
On to the teas!
This purple jasmine strikes me as a middle-of-the-road jasmine tea. It wasn’t too exciting or different, but it’s a perfectly good jasmine tea. Warm, mellow, reliable, and thankfully not too fragrant–which is a nice surprise, since some jasmine’s can feel uncomfortably like drinking perfume.
A basic green tea, nothing too special for me unfortunately. It was a bit bitter which I worry was because of how I brewed it, as the tea bag suggests 3-5 minutes. For a milder brew, I’d try steeping the tea for less time, which would hopefully result in a less bitter and more flavorful green tea.
The Ebony Osmanthus was likely my least favorite tea of the four. Very earthy, and similar to some Ceylon teas I’ve tried, but with some very strong bitter notes. It also has a pretty pungent odor. It’s a fine black tea, but I think just a bit too strong in flavor/sent for me.
Cranberry Orange Herbal:
The color on this one was gorgeous! The tea itself was tangy and had a super fruity fragrance, so it was a very spring-y tea. For those with a sweeter sensibility, this tea might need a spoonful of honey to make it a little less tart, but for me it was perfect.
This month’s Simple Loose Leaf tea box had a herbal, green, black, and jasmine, so definitely a varied mix of teas! The Cranberry Orange Herbal was by far my favorite, with it’s tangy taste and beautiful color, while the Ebony Osmanthus missed it’s mark the most for me. For $11.99 a month ($9 a month plus $2.99 in shipping), each bag of tea ends up being only $2.99 each! For someone with flavor commitment issues, the Loose Leaf Tea box is a great way to try a varied array of high quality teas in different flavors, without breaking the bank or ending up with a flavor you don’t love.
Is this box still available?
